Nancy McFarland

Photo of NancyNancy has been a photographer since 1970, but developed her career as a computer programmer and network administrator. She moved to Whidbey Island in 2002 and started a new journey, opening the family's art gallery in 2003.

Currently, she and her son, Joe, produce fine art prints, and they have discovered a new dimension in their relationship. Now, as business partners, Nancy and Joe share their knowledge with each other and with their clients, through their studio classes. This new career has taken Nancy back into her photography, and provided her with many different avenues of processing her own work.

Joe Menth

Joe with artist David HearnJoe Menth has been a resident of Whidbey Island since 2003.  Prior to moving to Whidbey, Joe lived in the northern suburbs of Seattle throughout his childhood and his early adult life.

He is at heart an artist and musician.  He has been a pianist since age 9, and has played in various loose groups of like-minded musicians on piano. His artistic passions focus primarily on the photographic arts, both film and digital.  He has used many mediums over the years to accomplish his vision in any given project, from acrylics and watercolors to hand-drawn animation and musical scores.  He currently enjoys working with lo-fidelity and antique cameras, as well as with transferring digital images to other surfaces as parts of multi-layered multi-media projects.

He is a graduate of the Art Institute of Seattle where he specialized in computer animation and graphic design. He has also studied photography extensively through higher education courses as well as private instruction with mentors.

Joe's career path began in marketing for high-tech companies in the late 90's, working as a Marketing Manager in communications, advertising, web authoring, graphic design, product management, and trade show/event management.  He worked through the dot com rise and crash for high-tech and bio-tech corporations before choosing to create his own business on Whidbey Island.  While starting his own art gallery with his family, Joe worked as Membership & Marketing Services staff for the Langley Chamber of Commerce for two years, and ran the gallery for three years.

Joe is currently the President of the Board of Directors for the Whidbey Island Arts Council.  He also serves on the Choochokam Arts Board as the Design & Tech Chair, and served on the Design Review Board for the City of Langley in 2005.
