From Hahnemuhle: "In China, people have been making paper from bamboo fibers for more than 1500 years. In Germany, the Hahnemühle paper mill has been producing art papers for 420 years. Now, Hahnemühle is using ultra-pure fibers from bamboo grass and spring water to create a premium, warm-tone fine art paper for giclee fine art printing.
Bamboo is environmentally attractive for paper-making because it is a more renewable resource than trees. The bamboo plant, which is actually a tropical grass, grows to maturity in about four years, compared to the 25 to 70 years required for most commercial trees. About 25% of the bamboo can be pruned annually - and the pruning doesn't kill the plant - meaning that bamboo can provide 4 to 5 times the usable biomass of the fastest-growing commercial trees, without sacrificing the individual plant itself. In the spirit of conservation, Hahnemühle will donate a portion of the revenues from the Bamboo paper to environmental projects."
